Swinging Sixties

Dress: Missguided
Tights // Boots: Primark
Earings: Swarovski

An unexpected afternoon lunch was on the cards this dreary Monday afternoon when my Mum invited me along to join her and her friend for lunch - Who am I to turn down a free lunch?

I always have and probably always will, love the sixties era. There is something so beautiful and chic about the style that I just adore. The women of the sixties weren't afraid to wear bold colours and patterns or experiment with crazy eye make-up - think I was born in the wrong era. When I saw this high neck skater dress on Missguided I knew that it had to be mine! Due to the cold weather it was essential to pop on thick black tights, although the dress is on the short side, I'm sure tights would be on regardless. It's funny though, white is never a colour I opt for regularly, in fact it's probably a rare occurrence you would catch me in the shade resembling my snow-like skin - I always feel that it can wash me out. However, there was something about this dress that made it into my basket and quickly hit the 'check-out' button before I could turn back!

This blazer was a present for Christmas which I haven't had a chance to wear yet. Lets be honest, it has been far too cold to step outside without a ski suit on, never mind a blazer. Two, my blazer may be ridiculously pretty but it is also ridiculously hard to pair with anything patterned. Noting that I was wearing a plain white dress I seized the opportunity to pull this off the hanger, I think I heard it squeal with excitement about it's first (of many) outings!

You may have noticed that I have been messing around with my photos over the last few weeks. I am trying all different things; outdoors, indoors, settings, styles - trying to find what's best for me. I'll get there eventually! If you have a preferred style then please let me know what you like best?

Edinburgh in Bear Ears

Top: Primark
Jeans: New Look
Boots: Kurt Geiger
Watch: Michael Kors

Heading off to Edinburgh at the weekend to celebrate my cousin's hen do! Lovely overnight at The Roxburgh Hotel in the city centre where all the family were together celebrating. For a daytime look I opted for this blue high neck blouse. I love the cut of the top and it doesn't cling to my body creating a thinner waist. The lace inserts at the top add that extra touch of sass!

Knowing we were heading out at night and the attire was to be elegant (my evening outfit will be in a seperate post) I opted for a more casual daytime look and paired the blouse with my staple skinny, shaper jeans and brown boots. Trying to find the balance between casual and dressed can be a tricky task, I always find a pair of jeans and a dressed top can never go wrong in the fashion stakes!

Coat: Asos

For any fellow Scots out there you will know that the temperature has taken a severe dip! This particular day was no exception, in fact, I think it was possibly the coldest day we have had so far this year. Don't get me wrong, we have been pretty lucky thus far with the snow situation, being that we haven't had any - yet! *touch wood* So I opted for this huge faux fur coat in the mind-set that a) it is so cosy and warm and b) it can switch up from day and night effortlessly!

Polka Dots

Top: New Look
Skirt // Necklace: Topshop
Bag: Mum's Closet
Shoes: Kurt Geiger
Watch: Michael Kors

After a week of being ill - started off with the sickness bug and when that subsided I then got smitted with what feels like the flu! Hasn't exactly been a week full of joy! Myself and Craig decided to head out for dinner on Saturday night as nothing was going to keep me down. Decided to stay local, the weather up here in Scotland hasn't exactly been fantastic over this last week and Saturday in particular was a constant shower of rain! So we opted for Benkaz restaurant.

I always think that when you aren't well, getting dressed can perk you up just that tiny little bit. I have a new found obsession with pencil skirts at the moment and decided to pop this black polka dot (polka dots are huge this season) on and go with a monochrome theme. Teamed with an oversized plain tee which I knotted at the front to add some dimension - voila! Casual and dressy all rolled into one. I sometimes find monochrome quite bland so to add a splash of colour I opted for a bright red bag and matching lippy!

For my face I used my Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, I recently purchased this after reading Anna's review and couldn't resist! To be fair, I have been eyeing it for a while but after reading this it confirmed my need for it! My lips were the big statement of the night with my Nars 'Red Square' Matte pencil which has fantastic staying power and just a wash of Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in 'Permanent Taupe' on the lids.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Friday Fabu-List: Pastel Perfect

Hello again friends! It has been a little while since I have posted a Friday Fabu-List and I know they always proved popular with you lot! So I decided that it was time to bring back one of my favourite posts to write. Today I decided to look at one of the most popular trends in this new season - Pastels!

Topshop

I love this powder blue two piece -  Huge fan of this 50's inspired style! I think the high waist of the skirt and cropped top together create such a sophisticated/ sexy combo that is lethal! Shows off the perfect amount of flesh!

Topshop

Who doesn't love the fluffy jumper?! Channel your inner Cher from Clueless and team this beauty with a PVC Skirt and you are bang on trend! These trans-seasonal pieces will take you from Winter to Spring with ease.

Shop the trend: Pastels
Shirt

If you want to incorporate this hot trend into your work wardrobe or something to brighten up your jeans then pop this beautiful yellow floral shirt on. Hitting two key trends; pastels and florals you really can't go wrong!

Shop the trend: Pastels
Mac Coat

If, like me, you were loving this pretty pink shade all of winter and you aren't quite ready to let go then why not continue the trend by ditching those thick coats and opt for a more appropriate Mac! Everyone needs one, and why not go for something a little different?

Missguided

Oh me, Oh my! How beautiful is this lilac, high neck top! If this baby doesn't brighten up your day then what will!? This could be worn nice and casual or glammed up at night with a bib necklace for that added wow factor!

Missguided

If you love your prints then looked out for dog-toothed styles. They are sticking around. How cute is this little tea dress (plus the back in cut out - whats not to love?). Skater dresses are flattering on everyone so you can't go wrong. Perfect for a lunch date.

There we have it - some of my favourite picks from this seasons hottest trend.
I feel like with these types of posts I don't get to go into as much detail as I do with others posts. Let me know your thoughts, are you a fan of this type of post? Do you prefer full reviews? Or do you have any ideas for my next Fabu-list?

Take the Plunge

Dress: Topshop
Necklace: Dorothy Perkins
Bag: New Look
Watch: Michael Kors

Heading out to a friends 21st birthday on Saturday night I decided I wanted to wear something a little more daring! The plunge style is back with a bang, having seen it amongst lots of celebrities I decided I was going to pull out this mustard number! I love the unusual colour, like nothing else in my wardrobe, and the ruffled petal design on the bottom is absolutely beautiful.

The dress is plunged at both the front and back which proved quite problematic on holding it up. During the week I decided to take it to my Gran who can perform magic when it comes to fixing clothes. We opted for a gold chain across the back to hold both sides up and give me peace of mind that nothing would be on show! Who would have known it wasn't part of the dress?

I then teamed the dress with a long, hanging necklace which I tied into a knot to make it hang straight down the middle and added a clash of colour with the leopard print envelope style bag. I love this style of bag for a night out - they are huge and can fit everything in there! You can't see my feet in these photos but I wore my black, pointed Kurt Geiger heels to keep the attention firmly on the dress!

This is a little outside my comfort zone as I don't tend to wear anything where my chest is on show but I decided that I've hardly got a chest to begin with so what was the worst that could happen?!

Going for straight hair is quite an unusual occurrence for me. Tend to just tie it in a top knot (how exciting?) or leave it down without styling it, my hair has a natural wave to it. I went for nude eyes and a bold statement lip with Mac's Glaringly Hip. I love wearing dark colours on my lips, I think pale girls can really pull them off! This was a night for a bit of sculpting on the face so I used my Sleek Contour Palette in Light.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Would you take the plunge?

Friday Fabu-List

Today's Friday Fabu-List is going to be linked to my post on Monday about the new colour of the season which is looking to be cobalt blue. I have been seeing it everywhere of late and I have picked some of my favourite pieces from the high street/ online to help you through the season.

Love these court shoes! I think they would be perfect to brighten up a pair of jeans and cami or add to a cream dress to give it a little something extra. Or if you are feeling brave why not colour clash?

This playsuit is absolutely gorgeous, really on trend with the scalloped shorts. I am obsessed with these gold plated belts just now and really think they add a touch of class to an outfit. Definitely an outfit for breaking out the dance moves!

This jacket is on my wishlist! It is gorgeous. I live in leather jackets and this would be perfect if you were starting to get bored of the your plain black bikers. This would look gorgeous with some jeans and biker boots.

I have noticed a progression in Internacionale and think it has came on leaps and bounds over the last year or so. They have really stepped up their game and became quite the contender on the high street scene. Love this clutch and think it would be great on a night out again an LBD.

This is amazing! I am a huge fan of playsuits and I feel a lot more comfortable and secure in them - especially on nights out. I can dance around like mad as much as I like. Love the back of this as well, really classic with the string straps. Also a big fan of the drawstring middle to add shape to the waist.

River Island are really knocking it out the park on this cobalt blue trend! They have so many amazing items to bring to the table. This jacket is amazing! Dying to have it. Love the gold buttons and tuxedo style jacket - will add a dressy feel to any outfit.

If you aren't too sure on this colour and aren't ready to dive right in then maybe adding some simple accessories will add the seasons must-have colour to your wardrobe. Why not opt for this amazing leopard print scarf? I think this will most probably be getting purchased by myself! Team it with some boyfriend jeans and a simple white tee.

Hope you like this weeks Friday Fabu-List, I have linked all of these items to where they are located on each website if you have been tempted to buy any of the above. Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas for my next list!

Tangled Up In Blue

Dress: Primark

Cobalt blue is back with a bang! The vibrant blues have been all over the place lately. I can't walk into a shop without seeing some sort of section dedicated to the on-trend colour of the season. I love the flare to this dress. Can you believe this is a Primark number? Sometime their stuff is absolutely amazing! It's just knowing where to look!

I love the mesh style sleeves and cuffed wrists to give it more volume and created a fitted look. Mesh has been in and out of fashion quite frequently and for any first timers who don't want to flash too much flesh then some simple sheer sleeves is a great way to ease your way into the trend!

To add some shape I to the dress and show off my figure a little more I added a simple gold patent belt. I actually can't remember where I got this from as I have had it for that long but I have a strong feeling it was possibly attached with something else I had bought. I like the contrast of the blue and gold and think it just adds an edge to the overall outfit. The dress is quite low cut with where the cross over forms, which for non-busty girls like myself proves problematic. I have actually pinned it higher than it usually is for it to sit better for me personally.

Nude shoes - my favourites - to keep focus on the dress, any bold shoes would make the whole thing look a little wild! I know that these shoes are just about done but I honestly don't have the heart to throw them away. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned and they are perfect for when I am working and on my feet for hours straight. They will be with me until a heel breaks!

Foundation: Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Light Porcelain
Blusher: Maybelline Expert Wear Blush 77 Rose
Eye liner: Miss Sporty Liquid Eye Liner
Brows: HD Brow Palette
Eyeshadow: Naked 2 palette Urban Decay
Lipstick: Revlon Kissable Balm Stain Honey

Went for a light smokey eye tonight on my eyes with a light brown across the crease built with some warmer creamy colours. My dress is very bright and colourful so I wanted to keep my eyes quite neutral. Started with a light base and didn't contour too much, just a light and subtle enhancement to the cheekbones tonight. Also went for a neutral lip colour again to avoid any clashing with my dress - partially because my microphone is absolutely covered in lipstick due to gigging, I end up with it lipstick all over it and then all over my face by the end of the night! I'll try and get a picture up for you all!

Hope you like this look!

Red Lipstick, All On The Paper

Top: Topshop
Skirt (braces attached): H&M
Jacket: Primark
Scarf/ Tights/ Boots: New Look
Bag: La Moda

Today was date day with my lovely boyfriend Craig and we decided to go a jaunt into Glasgow City Centre. He was out looking for a suit and I was just looking for whatever I could get my hands on basically! Typical!
The weather was obviously up to it's usual tricks with dark clouds looming above however, I decided to be brave and risk no hood. To be fair, I have hardly any jackets with a hood on them and I'm not a massive jumper wearer so my warm leather jacket it was.

Got this cute skirt with braces attached when I was in London with my Mum a while ago on sale for like £7 - absolute steal! Really love it. I think that the dark grey keeps it quite understated even with the 'LOVE IS HARD' writing all across it. I wanted to highlight the braces and so opted for this super soft top from Topshop. These burnout style tee's are everywhere at the moment and a great investment. I'm looking to get them in a few colours as they are handy to throw on with jeans.

Needed some tights today as it is definitely not sunny enough to go bare legs! Plus the fact I am constantly freezing so it's just not worth it! Got these boots at Christmas time to get me through and have finally pulled them back out since the sunshine has been and gone.

I just bought this bag from La Moda and I am absolutely in love with it! I am a big bag person and this is certainly a big bag! I hate trying to cram things into a tiny bag, what is the point when you can get beauts like this for amazing prices! Studs have been massive this year and I still don't see them disappearing any time soon. This also ticks onto the monochrome trend, I personally think this is a classic piece that I will get lots of use out of.

Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me 115/ Bobbi Brown SPF 15 Porcelain
Elizabeth Arden Pencil Liner
Brows: HD Brows
Blusher: MUA

Today's look was unfortunately done by hand i.e foundation, as I washed my brushes last night - absolute nightmare of a task! - and I was still waiting on them drying this morning. Went for a classic liquid liner look with a slight cat flick at the end to open up my eyes. Just got the HD Brow kit and was so excited to use it! I could go out without any make-up on as long as the brows are done! Will review my HD Brows soon and let you know my thoughts! I never had any contour today again due to lack of brushes! Decided to add a statement lip to add colour to my overall outfit as well as distract from my lack of make-up expertise today!

Hope you like this look!
